The library was built in 1953 and was originally named the Thomas Luther Holcomb Library in honor of  Dr. T.L. Holcomb, a leading Southern Baptist minister and corresponding secretary of the Baptist School Board from 1935 to 1953. The library was renamed in recent years to honor Susie McClure, who was known for her work in the Baptist Church throughout the country and was a member of Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee.
