As a part of Black History Month, American Baptist College supports the production, “Stirring the Waters Across America,” which has been a special workshop at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts will debut its national tour right here in the Music City with a one-night only performance Friday, Feb. 28, 2020, 7 p.m. at Vanderbilt University’s Langford Auditorium. This event is a great way to cap Black History Month and it is absolutely FREE!
Produced by NEWorks Productions and Edgewood Ventures, this Broadway-quality theatrical concert production of music, dance, spoken word and video highlights key events of the Civil Rights Movement from 1954-1968 and makes vital connections between then and now. The production is conceived, written and musically directed by Nolan Williams, Jr., composer and producer, and is directed by Eric Ruffin, award-winning director and professor at Howard University. You will enjoy the talents of a diverse and talented national touring cast of actors, singers, dancers and musicians from New York, Atlanta, Dallas, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., along with locally-sourced musicians.
Following the 90-minute immersive theatrical experience, there will be a talkback moderated by Dr. Alisha Lola Jones, Assistant Professor of Ethnomusicology, from Indiana University Bloomington.
